Gerry does make lovely soda bread from scratch, but this is nice in a pinch--no buttermilk required.

I've never seen Odlum's before, but now I want it just for the owl, such a cute package!
Did you know, you can make a cheating kind of buttermilk by adding fresh squeezed lemon juice to milk? It works really well - in fact, it's so difficult to get buttermilk here that I use this method all the time!
