Rah Rah Goooooo Laundry!

A few months ago, I was having a problem with smelly towels. I washed them in hot hot water, dried them in the sun, tried vinegar, baking soda...nothing worked. Finally, after a few Google searches, I went out and bought a box of 20 Mule Team Borax.

It worked! Not only did my towels lose that funky smell, but everything came out brighter than usual. My white gym tees? Dingy grey no longer. My cloth napkins? They're glowing.

I thought about mentioning my new found love on the blog, but I was hesitant. The box says it's "natural," but is it really? Something that works this good has to be full of harsh chemicals, right?

Depends who you ask. The dangers of borax vs. borax as an environmentally friendly cleaning product. (These were just two convenient links. There are many, many more out there.)

There are no kids here, and I don't...um...er...clean the house overly much, so I'm not too worried about exposure here. For me, this stuff works.

Borax kills fleas in carpeting, also.
Not that a princess has fleas, of course.

Borax ROCKS! I have mega sensitive skin and it never bothers me. I use it in every load of laundry I've done.

Borax cleans floors well, too.

I have been using borax for years! I recently told a friend about borax for her towels/washclothes,etc. You just have to be sure it dissolves...so warm - hot water is best to avoid clumping! A long time friend.

I use a mix of borax, baking soda, and washing soda for laundry. I also add a bit of Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds. I put a bit of vinegar to soften the fabric(esp towels) and so it rinses well.

I also use the same mix to clean. It's fabulous because I don't have to use gloves and I have sensitive skin. Also, you don't have to rinse.

No matter if you're cleaning walls, floors, bathroom, kitchen cupboards, it works and works well. Also gets rid of fungus and mold and musty smells.

What's not to like, huh?

I love using borax too. It makes everything look brighter and smell better. Plus it doesn't irritate my really sensitive skin.
We've found that: Borax + White Vinegar = No more catpee smell...

Re that first article link: Good lord, people who can't tell the difference between borax and boric acid should not be writing articles on the subject.
