Neck Decor

A few months ago, I bought this sweater without examining it carefully. After getting it home, I found two little holes in the front, so it went into the refashioning pile, awaiting inspiration. All this time, I've been planning to cover it up somehow, either with an applique or stitches or a combination of the two. But after fiddling with it for a bit...eh...I tried it on again, and decided not to waste my time. I liked it in the first place because it was a simple, close-fitting basic. If I couldn't wear it that way, I didn't really need it.

I figured this would be a good opportunity to experiment with some of the other sweater refashions I've seen. Recently, a few people have chopped up sweaters to make accessories like cowls and leg warmers. Here's what I ended up with:

Originally, I tried the cowl, but I just wasn't happy wearing it that way. I couldn't get it to fall in pretty folds, and the length really really bothered me, because it just wasn't flattering. I started looking for ways to make a longer scarf, eventually cutting the body piece into four long, skinny strips (thinking of those NeckScape things I've been seeing here and there). I knotted them together to get an idea of how it would look if I sewed all the strips together and...well, I think, maybe? It's finished? Does it look too much like I have rags tied around my neck? Or can I get away with it because it's a lovely merino wool?

For those who've asked, I had surgery to remove a messed up parathyroid gland. (That's my new scar in the picture above!) I'm doing fine and should soon be back to what passes as normal!

What a neat way to rescue that sweater! I never would have thought of this. . . I have lots of holey sweaters I hastily purchased from the thrift stores that now have a purpose!

I hope your recovery is speedy and complete. :)

Am I the only one that keeps saying, "I'm gonna need more information", lol?

I knew I spied a fellow thyroid patient. I had a total thyroidectomy in October, and the scar does fade over time. Mine's not near as noticeable as it was, and by October of this year, it should be mostly faded.

When people ask me what happened, I usually tell them that I mouthed off one too many times to my husband, and he came after me. My husband keeps telling me I'm going to get him killed one day. :)

Glad you are recovering from your surgery, and here's sending you lots of healing thoughts and well wishes.

Mags, I did nothing but cut the sweater into strips and knot it together. It's that easy!
