Self-Stitched September, (Work)day Two

White skirt, self-stitched from Simplicity 4748

Bright pink tee, Florence+Fred, Tesco
Scarf, random Ross find
Shoes, Dansko

I need to pencil in a little more time in the morning for taking outfit pictures this month! If I'd waited until I got home to do it, the light would have been better, but the skirt would have been more wrinkled. So you get this grainy shot with my shirt kind of hitched up funny, but it gives you the idea.

Again, I was using Self-Stitched September as an excuse to venture a little outside my comfort zone, this time by building an outfit around the white skirt. I sewed this skirt in June of 2008, and before today I had worn it...are you ready for this...exactly one time. I can tell you exactly why that is: a) I always felt somewhat nurse-like when I put it on and b) I thought it made me look wide on the bottom. This morning, I wasn't getting the nurse vibe, but I did sort of feel like I needed to draw attention upward from that BRIGHT! WHITE! of the skirt, so I went with a vibrant tee and a scarf.

I thought a closer look at the scarf might be nice, to better show the pink stripes, but I was running out of time, so I multi-tasked. Hey, my toothbrush matches too!

Speaking of the toothbrush, it's from Preserve Products and comes with its own little postage paid sack to send it back for recycling. I don't know how that shakes down, eco-wise, with transportation costs and what have you, but I liked the color and it was labeled ultra soft, so I fell for it.

I love the outfit and the white skirt looks great on you. I had a terror of white skirts, too, until this year. I took the plunge and now I wear a hand-me-down white linen one a lot.

Sarah, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a white skirt fear! Now that I've worn it a few times, I'm sorry I haven't been wearing it more all along!
