At Long Last...

Sorry for the delay in getting to part two! I had just about recovered from my September cold when I came down with my October cold. Coughing has been my primary extracurricular activity for the past week, leaving me too wiped out to do much of anything else. Any recommendations to help with a cough?

Promises to Keep by Jane Green: Sorry, I haven't really liked a Jane Green book since The Beach House. Awkward all around. Pet peeve: Book is set in the US but is filled with Britishisms. How daft!

Mrs. Somebody Somebody by Tracy Winn: I almost passed this one by because it's a collection of short stories, but it's similar to Elizabeth Strout's Olive Kitteridge in that the stories are related and come together nicely to form a whole. Worth reading!

31 Bond Street by Ellen Horan: I've become wary of the books my mom recommends, but this one sounded pretty good, so I gave it a try. After a slow start, I really enjoyed this one. See the book page for a dramatic preview!

The Season of Second Chances by Diane Meier: Reeled me in and kept my attention. Some have criticized it for not being believable, and maybe there were too many too-good-to-be-true elements, but I just went with it and escaped into the story. You know how they call books good Summer Reads? I'd call this a good Fall Read.

The Personal History of Rachel DuPree by Ann Weisgarber: Loved it. It's kind of like Little House on the Prairie, Extra Gritty Edition.
.
My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira: This was a tough one for me. While I liked the story about Mary Sutter's struggles to become a surgeon, the Civil War background overwhelmed me, and I struggled to finish the book.

A Slender Thread by Katharine Davis: Eh. Mostly just okay, but the end...the end was abrupt and unsatisfying.

The Last Days of Dogtown by Anita Diamant: Liked it, but I don't know if it's the kind of book that will stay with me.

slather the bottom of your feet with vicks vapor rub and put on a pair of socks. Wierd yes, but oddly enhough, seems to work. Works for my kids too.

Honey! (Not as in sweetie pie darling, but as in eat some off a spoon for your cough.) I also like water with apple cider vinegar and honey (about a teaspoon of each to a glass of water)--horrible at first, but I've come to like it when I'm sick. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Vitamin D.
You most likely have a deficiency.
Since we do not spend much time in the sun, our bodies do not make as much as they should... try it.
