Opinions Sought, Bribery Involved

I know it's boring to hear about painting cabinets day after day, so I'm offering a little bribe if you bear with me a little longer and help with some advice. Want to win a copy of this book? Keep reading!

So this is what the kitchen looks like right now. The cabinets and trim are nearly done, we have a tile guy lined up for the backsplash (white subway tile, very simple), and we are going to try refinishing the countertops ourselves. If that should go terribly wrong, we'll replace them with new butcher block, but I have been assured that no special skills are needed, so that sounds like our kind of project!

I've been eyeing up some finishing touches like a new faucet, pendant lights, and a rolling cart, which will make for MUCH more interesting posts, but before we can get to the fun stuff, we have to make some decisions.

We know we want blue. I had decided on a color, but got cold feet and brought home a few more samples. After round two of samples, we've narrowed it down to these two.

Which do you prefer?
Tell me your choice and why, and I will enter you in a drawing to win the Make Your Place book! And don't worry, you can win even if we don't end up going with your pick. I'll take opinions until the end of the day Wednesday, because Thursday is the day we start painting, and then draw a winner at random. And now I will refrain from saying anything else until I hear some opinions!

I like the darker blue (the one with no number), it will stay clean easier, BUT, are the white tiles a true white, or a warm white, or a cool white? That would make a difference on which blue will look best.

I like #1, I think it will make the room brighter.

Blue is my favorite color.
I like #2. It's warmer. I think #1 is to cold and stark looking. Plus, you're having white cabinets and white tiles. I think you need the warmer blue.

I like #2. It a cool colour, but it has definite warm undertones. I suspect it will change according to light, which is something I love in paint.

Everything's looking really good!

I like #1, the lighter shade of blue. The darker will tend to make the galley configured kitchen feel tighter, and will definately appear dimmer in corners where there is no light.

Once the lighter shade of blue is placed against the white tile and white cabinets, you'll see a clear pop of blue color.

I think #2 just the right shade to match white tiles, and would not make the size of the room appear smaller, which a darker shade would.Warm and welcoming colour.

I like #2. Always go darker than what you think and you won't be disappointed.

It's hard to tell but # 2 looks more periwinkle. If that's true and you're going for the look of that designer you like, I'd go for # 1. In fact, I think I like #1 better anyway lol.

I, too, like the darkest blue, So nice with white trim, etc. I always like a darker color with the white trim...

I vote for #1 also. I think it'll look best with the white - clean and airy.

I like #2, but #3 would be my pick in all honesty. I think with all the white you need a contrasting color. That being said, I can't wait to see it when its finished.

I like #1. I think it will be lighter and brighter and really compliment the crisp white cabinets and tile.

#1 is definitely brighter, but I think #2 would be the best. All three are very pretty!

I vote for #2. I like that greyish undertone that I see in it. It looks like we're pretty evenly divided, so how much help is our input going to be?!

I like #1. The darker color will make your space feel smaller. The lighter color will make the space seem larger, give it an airy feel. Even if you are not happy with the lighter color, it will be easy to paint over it with a darker shade.

#2 because #1 looks frosty to me, which I don't like!

So... this isn't an entry as I already have that book :)

You need to paint something (piece of foam core maybe?) the color of your cabinets and hold it up to the two blues you are considering. Right now the blues are next to the yellow you are getting rid of so we are judging it based on the yellow - not the new white of the cabinets. Good luck and remember you can always paint over it (surely the cabinets are the hard to paint - this is just wall paint, much much easier).

I like #2 the best. I love the grey undertone, to me it just looks more Martha Stewart.

I like the 2nd one best.

Wow, the white on the cabinets looks really good so far.

I think if you are going to add red accents and it's going to be Cath Kidston-ish then you have to go with #1 because I think #2 looks a bit purple.

But...I don't know how true color is on a laptop screen.

Either of those blues is going to look good anyway.

I definately like #2 better! #1 feels too "baby boy" #2 seems like a color that I would love to be surrounded by!

I also vote for #2. You don't want an entirely white kitchen. I babysat in a house that had one. It felt like I was entering an operating room when I just wanted a Coke.
Plus, it has a little more color to it, which can lend itself to an accent color.

I don't know, it's so hard to tell in a photo, but I vote for #1. I painted all our bedrooms "Sweet Bluette" from BM and I love it. #1 has the same airy, light quality. A light blue can be tricky- you don't want it to look juvenile, but sophisticated which can be tricky.

Personally, I love hearing about your cabinets! Post more!

The cabinets are turning out quite well! I'm going to finish the doors Thursday and get the walls and ceiling painted and we'll be good to go! AND the counters are going to look awesome when I finish them, too!

You have a cute blog. I came about it while looking for skirt tutorials.
I almost bought this book! Lol! I think I like #2 best. I like the stormier quality.

I would say #2. #1 looks very baby blue and I think would get old pretty quickly.

I like #2, but think that #1 would be a better choice for a galley kitchen, being better able to reflect light. Also, the amount of grey in #2 might not look so good with the strong white of the tiles.

I like number two since it seems to be a warmer blue. I have a very light, colder tone blue in my kitchen and it has been hard to get towels that I like to go with it, and a curtain... see here: http://bit.ly/euZpsR

I like #2 with the white, I think the darker shade would be best. By the way, what is it called? I am looking for a similar blue for my place :)

Denise said...

#1 because it doesnt look like you have any windows for light in there and the lighter color would definitely make it feel brighter. Although I am kinda partial to yellow myself...;)

I think #2 would be best (I actually like the darker one even better to the right). I think it would look better with the white.

I like #1 best because it reminds me of the sky on a beautiful, sunny day.

P.S. You never have to bribe me to read your posts. I look forward to each one of them. (But I wouldn't mind winning the book. :)

I think the #1 sample is a brighter, icier color for the kitchen. Crisp.

I'm torn, because i actually prefer the darker, more grayish blue. However, the room doesn't look like it gets much natural light, so that blue could end up looking a bit dingy. So, I think I ultimately vote for #1.
