Insert Profanity Here

These past few days have not been the best. Get yourself a mug of chocolate. This might take a while.

Our roof is leaking.
It's snowing in October.
Someone stole a sign from our yard.
The heat at work is on the blink.
I forgot to scoop my cat's litterbox for a couple of days.
Every rechargable battery in the house is dead at once.
So I'm cold, I'm a bad mommy, and I had to steal batteries from the tv remote to put in my camera. Not that I can even take any decent pictures lately, because I need sunlight. grumble grumble grumble

Doesn't sound so bad, does it? Oh, but I didn't mention my biggest frustration of all? My latest sewing project. This is the pattern I was trying out for the first time. A skirt without a zipper--yay! I thought the yoke with the buttons looked cool and couldn't wait to try it.

Well. It was one thing after another. First I cut two of the yoke pieces backwards. Then I had trouble matching up the seam between the yoke and the skirt. Then I finally got it to work and...guess what I did? Anyone know? Hint: I made it out of corduroy.

Ayup, I forgot about the nap. When I recut those two yoke pieces, I forgot about the stinkin' nap. My heart just fell into my knees when I realized what I'd done.

Even with the setbacks, I thought I was doing really well up until then. I liked my facing fabric, the curved seams were lovely, and the topstitching was nifty. --sigh--

I thought maybe you fell asleep in the middle of skirt making. That's something I would do.

Sounds like a little embellishment of that seam would hide that nap problem. You are right - that's a lot of bad juju at one time.

don't lose heart!!!! The colors are beautiful (I have that same fabric only I made a bag out of it) and the lining is super cute! As for the rest of it....well, let's just say I am taking a day off today because I was pretty sure I was going to be on the news as "Crazy Teacher Shoots Students" if I didn't take a day off.

Also, cat litter boxes...no fun. I have two cats and when they decide the litter box is too full, they will most decidedly let me know in an unmistakeable way. =(

NOT a bad mommy....just a tired one, who needs a break. I would help, but I live far away. And I probably freaked you out with the comment about guns. =) Good luck, I hope things go better soon!

As they say in the IT world, it's not a mistake, it's a *feature*! You *meant* to do it like that! Right?

So don't feel too bad. I made a pair of slacks out of corduroy and forgot about nap. The good, it was all cut in the same direction. The bad, every time I went to brush my hand down to brush off lint or something I rubbed the nap back and it showed. Still wore them anyway but it was a hard earned lesson. How noticeable is that nap difference? Maybe it isn't as bad as you think. After all it was a day filled with stressful things. Just hoping for you. May your days get brighter and joy filled.

at least the nap is reversed on the yoke - could you somehow make it look like that is how you meant it to be? maybe add a strip of fabric, if there's enough left, to the bottom of the skirt that matches the direction of the nap on the yoke?, or patch pockets, or another applique shape or some embroidery over the yoke something? i understand how frustrating it can be when something doesn't turn out the way you expect! hope this next week is better for you too :)

Ooooh, I like it the way shojin and jeanamarie sugested. Gonna file that great idea away just in case. :) Make another section going the wrong way to make it look like it was on purpose.

I "kind of" did that to a denim jacket back in the 80's come to think of it. Couldn't afford acid washed denim. Cut a curve in the sleeves to make two parts and reversed the top half so the wrong side of the denim showed. And reversed it on the yokes. Fake acid wash.

I've tagged you and I'm finally adding you to my blogroll. Don't know how I've missed you for so long.

Aww man, that's a lot at once! I think the nap difference looks intentional, nice and contrasty, yet subtle. Embellish that seam and call it beautifully unique!

Oh snap!

I swear I can't get through a project without doing something- usually it's something like sewing the pockets shut or putting a sleeve on backwards. I feel your pain!

But you know what? I think your skirt looks lovely! I won't tell anybody if you won't tell.

Hm ... can't you just play it off as "this is how it's supposed to look!!!"? Half of style is the attitude with which you wear your clothing ;-).
