Wrapped

I haven't worn a self-made shirt for Self-Stitched September yet, so that was today's mission. That was really a tall order, because I haven't made myself too many tops, and I'm not all that wild about the ones I have made. This wrap top, made from McCalls 4304, was still packed away in the attic from last summer, if that's any indication of how I felt about it.

Well, wouldn't you know, once I put it on this morning, it wasn't as bad as I remembered. I think I was lumping it in with all those wrap style tops and dresses out there that I try on and reject because they fit me so poorly in the chest. I was forgetting that this is a true wrap top that's infinitely adjustable (instead of a faux wrap that's sewn in place), so I can cinch it up the way I'm comfortable.
Wrap top, self-made
White pants, Ann Taylor Loft, thrifted
Sporty Mary Janes, Lands End
The plan was to wear it with a black eyelet skirt I just thrifted last week, but I banged into a picnic bench on the way to my car and tore a hole in my hose. By the time I ran back inside and upstairs, I changed my mind and just pulled on these white pants instead.

Confession: I hate these pants. Crops, capris--I am not a fan. The only reason I even had these in my closet is because the thrift shop had them hanging on a fifty cent rack at the end of last summer and I had a mad moment of "oh maybe they'll come in handy someday." They were actually going to go back to the thrift shop when I cleared my summer clothes out of the closet, but...well...they came in handy, didn't they? I will say this for them: They are lined, which is just a wonderful thing in a pair of white pants.

That's a great top! I'm glad you rescued it from the attic and wore it.

That's a cute shirt, but you make me laugh with your not liking any of the clothing you've made! It's funny how we can be so critical of what we do.

Cute blouse- maybe I'll try that pattern. The wraps that are fixed do not work for me because I have a big gap with a lot of bosom showing.

About the pants-I had some that were not at all flattering until I rolled the hem up once or twice. Maybe they just hit your legs at an unflattering spot.

I like it. You look good in it. Hey, I really love the bottom right one with the capey sleeves. Does that pattern come in my size. (XL) I would even try to make that...and you know I don't make clothes.

Yours looks cute. I made one of those too only it fits like c-r-a-p. used a silly hawaiian print from good old gaffney's. don't know, the neck's too high or something. i guess i should try again with a proper fitting. ok, you inspired me.

Linda, I don't think there's any question that they hit my leg at an unflattering spot, lol! They have a lacing detail at the cuff, though, in addition to being lined, so I can't really roll them up. I could do surgery on them, but I'm not that motivated to save them. :)

Other Linda (lol), yes the pattern goes up to XL, sizes 20-22, but I think it's out of print. If you can find it somewhere, it's not hard to sew.

FITZ, see, I like the neck a little higher than shown on the pattern. Is yours really so bad?
