Gearing Up
We haven't started getting our shares from the CSA yet, but we are starting to get in the groove with some other locally-grown vegetables. Isn't it all just beautiful?
If you've ever thought about joining a CSA, I would urge you to try it. If you have no idea how a CSA works, check out my other blog where my husband and I wrote about the whole experience a few years ago. It was pretty humorous at times, considering I am a reluctant veggie eater!
We're giving it another go this year, and we'd love it if you followed along. We're especially interested in hearing about favorite, tried-and-true recipes or ways of preparing things. For instance, we haven't done much grilling with vegetables, so we'll be looking for advice when the time comes. There will be field trips (literally), food-related movie and book reviews, and Isabella makes regular appearances over there, as she loves chomping on green leaves whenever she gets a chance!

Grilled asparagus is the best, but I also love grilled zucchini, grilled peppers, and grilled onions. Just toss everything with olive oil and a little salt, throw it on the grill, turn, and you're done.
Once you've grilled your vegetables you can do anything with them (sandwiches, wraps, casseroles) but another fun thing to do on the grill is pizza. Cook one side, flip, then put your toppings on and cook the other side. So good!
We've been doing a farm box since January (I'm in CA, so they're year-round out here), and we love it! This is our favorite grilled asparagus recipe -- it'll make an asparagus fan of anyone, I swear! http://www.food.com/recipe/smoky-grilled-asparagus-413462 Also, we eat lots of veggie bowls with peanut sauce around here -- cook some brown rice or soba noodles, make a basic peanut sauce (I like this one: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/04/peanut-sesame-noodles/). Chop up and lightly steam or saute whatever veggies you really need to use up, serve over the rice/noodles with peanut sauce. YUM!
