Changing Focus

So I thought I'd write a post about what's been going on for the past little while and why I haven't been posting very much.

The short answer is that the fan went out in my laptop, and it was off being fixed.  Word to the wise: If your computer makes a sound like a buzz saw, stop using it, even if the sound stops and it continues to operate.  It took me until the next day to realize the fan wasn't running, and it was just dumb luck that saved it from overheating.  The tech was amazed it was even running.  Oops.  Another word to the wise: Keep your eye on your battery when you send your laptop off to be fixed.  Mine came back sans battery, and they have not been in a big hurry to replace it.

The longer answer is that I didn't feel motivated.  I don't know if it was seasonal affective disorder or depression or just general malaise, but I didn't feel like doing much of anything, besides take naps. Add to that the lousy light in which to take pictures, and a bunch of little projects I couldn't splash all over the blog because they were meant for gifts, and the result is sporadic posting.

But the more difficult answer is that I feel like my focus is changing, and I'm not sure how to approach that on here.  I'm becoming so much more interested in simplifying, scaling back, and improving my quality of life rather than adding yet another cute skirt to my wardrobe or bringing home adorable but useless things from the thrift shop.  Now don't get me wrong--I have projects I want to tackle, and I'll always be susceptible to lovely thrift shop discoveries, but...I don't know.  I don't know how to put it into words.  I guess I'm a little timid about moving forward, because I'm not sure anyone will be interested in that sort of thing.

So for now I am going to move forth and just let things evolve.  Gerry and I brewed up a whopper of a New Year's resolution last night which could make things interesting around here.  We'll see how it goes!

I for one can totally relate to scaling back...at the start of the school year a I ask one of my friends what she would be doing in PTA this year..she looked at me and said "I will help out when I can", but I have resolved to undercommit". I can not tell you how much I respect that...I respect those who can step back and say "No...I'm cutting back...I'm taking care of me and my family" Hope you have a wonderful New Year!!

Life has cycles! I've been rather absent on my blog too, and have decided I'll just post when I can/when I feel like it/when I think I have something worthwhile to say. Nothing wrong with that!

Best of luck to you in the new year, and with your new thinking!!

I can absolutely relate to scaling back, too. Looking forward to seeing how your new focus unfolds. :)

I have missed your posts... no matter what they are about, I always enjoy them! I say, you just do what you need to do but keep on blogging! People do change, that is perfectly normal. Wouldn't we become rather boring if we didn't?

I wanted to stop back in here and say thank you for all these comments! It's kind of scary to branch out this way, because I'm just so used to thinking of the blog as a crafty/sewing place. That just isn't my main focus right now, though. Thanks for your support--I mean that.

I'm inspired by many of the simplicity blogs I've seen but they're hard to relate to. Either they're well on their way to a life that's approaching extreme simplicity, their kids are much younger and not as aware of (or resistant to!) scaling back, or the bloggers don't seem to have crafty tendencies and all the bits and pieces that accumulate as a result. I think the transition you're contemplating is probably one a lot of your readers have considered as well. It would be great to follow along with you and your family!
