Apron Evolution

Since this whole change of seasons thing has me in a spin, I figured I'd work on another apron and save the clothes sewing until the weather makes up its mind. I liked the apron I made last month, as an apron, but I didn't like it as an apron for me. What I wanted was something less home ec and more art class. So this is what I came up with:

I used Butterick 4945. At first I almost rejected it based on the yardage requirements: 3 and three quarters! However, half of that is used as lining, so that gives you some flexibility. I had maybe three yards, so I just cut one of the lining pieces out of a solid (had lots of colors to choose from!). When I bought this fabric, I didn't even sew, so it's probably been languishing here in my stash for four or five years. Not that I want to admit this, but I think it was intended to become a pair of pants. Okay, stop laughing, I came to my senses.

Not sure what I was doing in this next picture, but it gives you a good look at how it wraps. I moved that pocket off to the side quite a bit so it wouldn't end up covered by the flap.

Overall, I'm pleased with it. Gerry has been calling it my fingerpainting smock, which I'm going to consider a compliment. I think it looks maaaybe a little Partridge Family, but I can live with that.

So, what should I do with that other apron? Why, I think I'll give it away! If you are interested in winning the Mrs. Cleaver Rosebud Apron, just say so in a comment on this post. I'll choose a winner at random on...let me see...Wednesday, October 8th.

You know, my husband has two aprons, and I don't have any! I'm the one who does all the cooking! It would be so nice to have one that's so girly instead of a bbq grilling manly one...

I LOVE the Mrs. Cleaver apron, both for me and for ulterior motives: when my mother comes to visit (as she has since we had our new baby), she gets out whatever apron I have on hand and does Stuff in the kitchen. When there isn't a clean apron, she feels less motivated. Clearly I need MORE aprons!

Cute, cute smock, too!

I've been amazed at how popular aprons have become in the past few years. And yours are really cute. Still picturing the striped fabric as pants has us going "Hmmmmm". :) Here's hoping we win the lovely June Cleaver one.

Love your apron and would love to be entered. The reason I would love to win your apron, is because I've have sewn aprons for everyone I know, except myself.
So if I win the extra apron. Keeping with my on going theme, i'll make you an apron!
Thank for the consideration

What a fun apron - both of them! Yay you for using up your stash. I think it'd be fun to win it: I too have been realizing that an apron (a whole apron, not one of those cute apron skirts) would keep the icky stains off my clothes...

Wow an apron, no only if I had time to make one for myself! I suppose that winning a hand-made one would be a good close second! If I don't win I guess it will have to wait until I finish lots of projects, including a charming bag.

I LOVE the striped one!!! Funny you should've thought of 'pants' with that fabric. I HAD a pair of those in my teens...and I swear it was the exact same stripe.
And yes...I'd LOVE to win it...either one!! LOL!! (Could I hope it's a 2XL? LOL!!)

Would love this apron, it will beat the 2 grocery store produce aprons I've used since my son worked there. Oh wait, that was over 10 years ago. I definitely NEED this.

I'm glad you decided to go with an apron, not pants. Yikes! =) Way cute as an apron though!!
