Need Input, Please!

So, my bloggy friends, I need some input.

First, Autum at Creative Little Daisy posted about a Simplicity pattern that she designed. Isn't that exciting? Congratulations to Autum! One of the bags caught my eye right away, view B. I've been trying to decide what to do with this thrift-shopped Lilly stuff I have, and thought that might work. As usual, the agonizing over just the right thing to make is going to take longer than the actual project.

I don't have tons of fabric to work with, as the two on the right are very short skirts. Otherwise I might attempt something like the patchwork skirt I made last summer. So what do you think? If I add in a solid, do you think it would tie it all together? Or do you have a better idea?

Second, I grabbed this pack of RED plastic links from the clearance wall at Jo-Ann's last night. (See? I really can't resist red.) How the heck are you supposed to link them together? Do I need jump rings or whatever they're called? Can I weave them onto a ribbon? Or somehow string them together? I know I could probably find answers at beading sites, but I get so overwhelmed by them. Help me!

Finally, don't forget about my giveaway! I have a MixTape magazine looking for a new home!

Jump rings would be your best bet. Though if you knot it right you can just use string; you just need to make sure it's secure.

I know nothin' ... but I REALLY need a purse made from the umbrellas. I live in Seattle, afterall! How cute would that be?!

Ok, if I understand this right, you want to make the bag in the upper right from the three fabrics you have in the picture, correct? If that is right, then I would definitely add in a solid (or maybe 2) to tie it all together, and it absolutely needs to be that robin's egg blue that is present in all three fabrics. If you add another fabric in, I would use something in a similar type of print that is purple-based. That bag is way cute...but I almost like the one in the lower part of the picture better. Good luck, I bet it turns out incredibly cute. You know that all I saw when I saw that pattern was men's ties...I might be obsessed.

Pinkpillsanity...I think you're right about the jump rings. The jewelry findings department at the craft store intimidates me, but I'll be brave and try to find some!

Jesica...They are SUN umbrellas, not RAIN umbrellas!

Columbia Lily...You may be right about the other bag being cuter. Decisions, decisions. I will never get this project off the ground!

About the red rings...are they drilled with holes for stringing, or not? If not, you can link them with rings sewed from red and white grosgrain ribbon, or just weave a wide ribbon through. You can go back to JoAnns for a tube of red seed beads, string several together to make rings and then put two little seed bead rings between each big red ring.

Best wishes on your project decision. I'm in the midst of my own, agonizing over what fabric to use to make the Amy Butler Domestic Diva apron...lovely vintage pansy print with purple straps, or olive green with hot pink cabbage roses with olive straps. I've been trying to decide for weeks...

How about using the red rings and some ribbon to make something like this washer necklace?

I like the fabric on the left and the right, tied together with the funky lime from the right and the purple flowers from the left. 2 solids with the 2 patterns. You're great for asking. Fabric combining is completely addictive. Happy combo-ing.

I don't care what KIND of umbrellas they are - they're adorable! :)

I saw these same links at my Joann's in the clearance but in turquoise and black. I thought for a while about how to connect them...then I took the lazy way out and put them back!
