It's the Little Things

A few months ago, my mom gifted us with this six pound can of sauce. (f you look closely, you can see our names written to the left side of the label!) Gerry does like the sauce, and it was a fabulous deal, but...well...I don't eat tomato and it's six pounds.

This huge can has been rolling around in the kitchen for so long, I feel like it's become part of the decor. We've been saving little plastic containers so we can freeze the leftovers and, I'm happy to announce, we finally have enough!

Don Pepino is having his day in the sun! He is happy happy!

An aside: As I sat down to write this, I was thinking to myself, "Am I really going to blog about a giant can of tomato sauce? Is this blog worthy or is this a new low?" I convince myself the graphic on the can is cool enough to warrant a post, so I'm okay, and then I sign in and see I've lost a subscriber. Oh no! I think I'm having a crisis of blogging faith!

I for one am happy you chose to blog on this. You are right, the graphics alone are worthy of a blog post!

I think the can would look really great holding cooking utensils. By the way I've done the freezing thing with canned tomatoes as well but not such a large can. Are you sure you will have enough freezer space? lol

six pounds of tomatoes in a darling can - definitely blog-worthy. I truly enjoy "darling petunia" but don't subscribe since i like the surprise factor. Keep up the good work - you're one of my favorites!!

I love the label, that great happy/manic expression, and it looks so retro. In fact it looks so authentically retro that I was momentarially worried for your health that you were going to be eating *really quite too old tomatoes*...

Yes, absolutely blog-worthy. Look how cheerful that Don Pepino is! And how bright and colourful is his giant 6-pound tomato tin! Wonderful!

I've purchased pizza sauce in a big can like that. I split it up into ziploc baggies and save it that way.You can lay them flat, takes up very little freezer space that way.

I used to buy the big can and freeze snippets- but they had little boxes you could buy and freeze things in. Maybe they still have them- maybe I just overlook them.

I am not a subscriber, but I always check for new messages. I will remember the name of that sauce and look for it.

Your blog, tell us what you'd like! Besides this is a really cute can - I wanna see you post a re use of it. A nice succulent planted in it perhaps?
