If You Can't Find it, Make It!

Yipee! I finally have a dark denim skirt! Despite owning six or seven denim skirts already, I've been on a search for a straighter, darker one. The thrift shops were yielding nothing, and I was starting to despair, when I realized I could easily make my own.

I already had plenty of denim in different weights and washes, so I chose a dark-wash, lightweight remnant. For the pattern, I went back to McCall's 3830, which I recently made in a corduroy version. I made one change to the pattern and added a waistband rather than doing a facing. I even finished it off with a button and buttonhole, which is almost unheard of around here!

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The only thing I'll do differently next time is cut it a tiny bit longer so I can get the length I want without making a stingy hem.

thanks for sharing! i'm currently working on a denim skirt, too, so it's wonderful to see other renditions! i think a nice dark denim skirt is perfect to dress up or down.

Great job with the skirt! I live in skirts in the spring and summer and always enjoy seeing the ones you make. You are my inspiration!
