As usual, insert the usual apologies for delaying a book post for so long! This is about half of what I have to share, but I figured it best to delay no longer.
The Winter Rose by Jennifer Donnelly: I love the way this overlapped with The Tea Rose, but focuses on a whole new set of characters. I confess, I am goofy about this series!
Vaclav and Lena by Haley Tanner: I'd heard so many good things about this book, I think it may have been a victim of the hype. It was okay, but something about it felt awkward. Her website though? Darling. Check it out.
Julia's Child by Sarah Pinneo: Boring. Not much of a story.
The House at Tyneford by Natasha Solomons: If you like Kate Morton's books or Downton Abbey, I'll bet you'll like this as well. I liked it quite a bit!
I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman: This sort of book kills me. I was really into it and couldn't put it down, but then when I got to the end? HUGE disappointment!
Aunt Dimity's Death by Nancy Atherton: Come to think of it, this one fizzled out at the end as well. I really enjoyed the writing, but the story didn't seem to go anywhere.
A few young adult books:
Empty by Suzanne Weyn: Premise=good. Execution=weak.
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins: Book three of the Hunger Games trilogy. I gave it a chance. The first book was good. The second was okay. I could have done without the third.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green: I'm usually a big fan of Green's books, but this one irritated me for some reason. Of course, with close to 500 reviews on Amazon, the average rating is five stars, so what do I know?

My 13 year old grand daughter recommended this series to me (THE HUNGER GAMES ). I had seen it but didn't think it appealed to me. That is what she told me, " I didn't think I would like these books ( or maybe this book) but I tried it and I like it. Read it." She and I agreed that we liked books one and two (especially one) and three was ok, but it was very different.
Right now she is waiting for the movie. I read an interesting review the other day wishing that fans (of the movie) were trying to make the heroine into a Bella type love story (Jacob/Edward- who does Bella end up with ?) and pointing out that Katniss is a strong woman on her own , and fans should cheer for her, not taking sides with the two men in her life.
Do you agree? Are you going to see the movie?

Linda, I wouldn't mind seeing the movie, but I'll wait for the dvd!
I hope people don't try to push Katniss into the Bella mold! Yuck!
